I try not to review books I do not like. If there’s demand for a book review I didn’t actually like, of course I’ll post it, but I really want to focus on the positive elements of a novel out of respect for the author. If there is no specific demand, I will only review books with a personal rating of three stars or higher because anything less I’ll only be dwelling on the negative. To write a book is a momentous achievement so I hope you can see why I won’t add my two cents in if I didn’t appreciate it. Everything I read, however, will receive a rating on my Goodreads account even if no review is published here.
I love reading positive reviews on books that make me want to leap to my laptop and order a copy immediately just so I can immerse myself in the world that the reviewer did. It’s exciting! So that’s what I want to give to you in return, positivity and of course honesty. I will never lie about a book I didn’t actually like – it’s just straight out honesty from here on in.
So what do my ratings actually mean?
★ ★ ★ ★ ★: To get 5 stars it means I must really love a book, it’s made it to my favourites shelf, and I will be most likely throwing it at you to read immediately.
★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ : 4 stars means it’s excellent and I really enjoyed it.
★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆ : 3 stars means it was a good solid read, but was fairly average
★ ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ : 2 stars means I probably finished it because I felt obliged to, but didn’t really enjoy it. There were parts I did like but, otherwise it would be rated lower.
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ : 1 star will be given to books I do not finish, or to books I find highly offensive, ridiculous, or honestly despised for whatever reason. There will probably be ranting in this case.
